For those of you who don't already know, Forzanightly is going to be our way of giving you a two-weekly review of racing and events here at Revolution Online Racing.
I will start by saying a huge thank-you to everyone who has joined us and raced with us so far. ROR only launched on the 1st of January, and with our first race on the 6th, the turnout has been fantastic. We are super happy so long may it continue! We have had people racing with us from all over the world, seeing racers from Australia, South Africa and Denmark competing in multiple series. Most notably one of our members from Australia who raced in our first Pre '66 Touring Car race at 5 am his local time!
Let's get down to business then and start with the first event here at ROR, the Pre '66 Touring Car Championship. Rounds 1 and 2 were held at Le Mans Bugatti and saw our first lobby jam-packed with racers hoping to get a step on the podium. We expected the racing to be fun and we were right!
Qualifying saw FIA LMC Alflo take pole position (and a qualifying bonus point) in his Lotus Cortina with a 1:59.0, very closely followed by BakedBean57 in the '65 Mini Cooper with a 2:00.5.
Race 1 was action packed and after 11 laps of battling, BakedBean57 made it to the top step of the podium in the '65 Mini Cooper and took the first race win here at ROR. He was followed by FIA LMC Alflo in his Lotus Cortina and taking the last step on the podium was thebeardyguy in the '65 Ford Mustang. A point for fastest lap was awarded to thebeardyguy for a cracking 1:59.2.
Race 2 also saw some action up and down the grid. thebeardyguy took the win in his '65 Ford Mustang, with FIA LMC Alflo in the Lotus Cortina following closely behind in 2nd. The 3rd step of the podium went to ObscurePluto7 in the '65 Mini Cooper, showing how worthy the little car is at battling with the big guns. Fastest lap was again by thebeardyguy with a 1:58.2, improving on his previous fastest lap by a whole second!
So, the top three standings for Rounds 1 and 2 of the Pre '66 Touring Car Championship are as follows: 1st is thebeardyguy with 42 points, 2nd is FIA LMC Alflo with 37 points and 3rd is BakedBean57 with 33 points. I wonder who will be on the podium for next weeks races when we visit Brands Hatch GP?
Our next event saw the first outing for the two-wheeled lovers at the Ulster GP in the R1 class Road Racing.
Race 1 was challenging for the riders, seeing Assistint take 1st position followed by BakedBean57 and finally TECHNOVIKING275 finishing in 3rd position.
Race 2 was again, another eventful race for all involved but Assistint was comfortable on that top step of the podium taking another 1st position. He was closely followed by BUCKO VERSUS in 2nd and finally, BakedBean57 in 3rd.
Standings after Rounds 1 and 2 are as follows: 1st is Assistint with 50 points, 2nd is BakedBean57 with 33 points and 3rd is BUCKO VERSUS with 30 points. All is still to play for and our next rounds are at NW200 which should be a fun one!
The maiden voyage for the GMC Pick Up Truck Championship saw our racers visiting Brands Hatch GP for Rounds 1 and 2. After testing in the week leading up to the event, drivers knew this would be a challenging one. But who took the challenge in their stride and came out victorious?
Qualifying saw FIA LMC Alflo pull out a 1:41.9 and give him pole position and that qualifying bonus point. thebeardyguy missed on out pole position by a minuscule 0.1 of a second! Couldn't have gotten much closer if he tried!
Race 1 saw FIA LMC Alflo carry on his success by finishing in 1st position, closely followed by BakedBean57 in 2nd and TheSpig in 3rd. FIA LMC Alflo also took a bonus point for fastest lap with a time of 1:41.1 and improving on his pole position lap in qualifying.
Race 2 was a more spread out affair, seeing thebeardyguy end FIA LMC Alflo's winning streak by pipping him to the top step of the podium. However, FIA LMC Alflo wasn't far behind, taking 18 points for 2nd position and seeing BakedBean57 finish in 3rd for the final podium position. Fastest lap bonus point was awarded to thebeardyguy for 1:41.0.
Standings after Rounds 1 and 2 are as follows: 1st is FIA LMC Alflo with 45 points, 2nd is thebeardyguy with 38 points and 3rd is BakedBean57 with 33 points. Our next outing for the GMC Pick Up Truck Championship will see the drivers visit the first oval circuit at Indianapolis Brickyard which I am sure will be an interesting one to watch. I sure won't be missing it!
Scirocco Cup which took place at the somewhat demanding Hockenheim National. We had predicted that the racing was going to be like you were watching the British Touring Car Championship and we weren't wrong! With the 300bhp+ front-wheel VW, drivers would be challenged in more ways than one.Our final race to review is from Rounds 1 and 2 of the
Qualifying saw BakedBean57 take the bonus point for pole position with a very respectable lap time of 1:37.9. His next closest rival was ObscurePluto7 with an also respectable 1:38.6. With qualifying being as close as it was, excitement for the race was hard to contain.
Race 1 was as close as we had hoped, with drivers race craft being pushed to its limits with close racing across the grid. ObscurePluto7 took his first win. Not far behind was BUCKO VERSUS in 2nd and BakedBean57 rounding out the top 3. Fastest lap went to ObscurePluto7 with an identical time to that which BakedBean57 set for his pole position winning lap earlier in the evening.
Race 2 was equally as challenging but ObscurePluto7 reigned supreme once again, enabling him to take another 25 points. TheSpig was on the 2nd step of the podium and speedcrazy26 finished in 3rd. The fastest lap bonus point was awarded to BakedBean57 for his 1:37.6 lap, giving him 2 out of the 3 bonus points up for grabs across the rounds and improving on his pole position winning lap time.
Standings after Rounds 1 and 2 are as follows: 1st is ObscurePluto7 with 51 points, 2nd is BakedBean57 with 29 points and 3rd is BUCKO VERSUS with 28 points. The next rounds see the drivers visit the notorious Nurburgring on its GP variation of the track. Who will be up to the challenge?
Let's finish off with a little update about what's been going on 'behind the scenes' at Revolution Online Racing over the last two weeks.
Although we only launched at the beginning of January, we have some exciting news to share... We are already expanding! We now have admins across the pond who are currently working super hard on developing series to run on our USA and Canada site and Xbox Club. They will be running a couple of the same events as us here at ROR UK but they also have a full and exciting calendar which will drop on the 4th of February. Keep an eye out for updates on our social media, website and Xbox Club!
A couple of us visited the Autosport International Show in Birmingham last week and were treat to an up close and personal look at a VW Scirocco Cup car and a Ford Pick Up Truck from the real-life racing series! Seeing them in the flesh was very exciting and it's safe to say we are doing a good job with replicating them on Forza Motorsport 6.
Okay, that's it guys and gals! Hope you have enjoyed having a little scroll. Make sure to keep an eye on your inbox for Forzanightly No.2 which will drop on the 1st February!
Keep the wheels turning
